Gehlot cabinet approves Metro Rail, imposes fresh tax

Jaipur, July 21 (PTI) The Rajasthan cabinet today approved two-phased metro rail project worth Rs.9100 crore in Jaipur City and setting up of a dedicated metro fund to be created by imposing fresh tax of Rs.538 crore on commercial vehicles at entry point and on four wheelers'' registration. The finance department would finalise the new entry tax for commercial vehicles and a hike in the registration fee of all vehicles except two wheelers, Chief Minsiter Ashok Gehlot told a press conference here. "Tax (cess) would be imposed soon with the start of the project probably in next one or two months", Gehlot said. Extra funds for both the phases of metro rail would also be generated through advertisment and new building norms relaxation for big builders by paying more house or complex taxes, Gehlot said. The first phase of metro rail project on 9.25km to be built at Rs.1250 crore would be given directly to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) without any tender as it was the official corporation of Delhi government, Urban Development and Housing and Home Minister Shanti Dhariwal said. The first phase of work between Mansarovar and Chandpole Gate would begin next month and completed by June 2013, Dhariwal said. Of 9.25 km, metro rail would be laid under ground in half km area from Sindhi Camp to Chandpole Gate, Dhariwal said. Of Rs.1250 crore project cost, the state government would provide Rs.600 crore to DMRC, the Rajasthan Housing Board and RIICO would provide Rs.100 crore each and Jaipur Development Authority will arrange funds to the tune of Rs.150 crore, Dhariwal said. Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation would take a loan to the tune of Rs.300 crore, Dhariwal said. The second phase of metro would be laid between Sitapura industrial area and Panipech and completed in next five years, Dhariwal said. More PTI YG.
