News posted by www.newsinfoline.com

Bathinda, Jul 21 (PTI) Attacking the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today alleged wrong policies pursued by it were responsible for galloping prices of essential commodities. Strings to check price spiral lay with the Union government and the state could do very little in this regard, he told mediapersons after inaugurating a development project here. Badal said the hike in prices of petroleum products had hit the common man hard already reeling under the runaway food inflation. He termed the reported statement of the Union Cabinet Secretary that prices of pulses would not come down in the next two years as baseless. Such irresponsible statements encourage hoarding, the Deputy Chief Minister said. He said the Punjab government was spending Rs. 2000 crore on strengthening the power distribution network in the state.
