Tehsildar sentenced to four years in jail in graft case

New Delhi, Jul 21 (PTI) A Delhi court today sentenced a suspended Tehsildar of the NCT government to four years prison term for seeking a bribe of Rs one lakh from a man in order to revoke a suspension of land allotment to him. Special Judge A S Yadav also imposed a fine of Rs 40,000 on Hari Krishan, besides the jail term, after holding him guilty under various provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Krishan, now 60 years old, was apprehended by a team of Anti Corruption Branch of Delhi government on January 31, 2006, on a complaint by Hukum Singh while taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 as advance from him. According to the prosecution, the convict, who was posted as Tehsildar with the Land and Building department, demanded a bribe of Rs one lakh from Singh to revoke a suspension order issued against allotment of 49 bigas and 9 biswas of agricultural land at Jhagola village here. Following the evidence including the statement of witnesses, the court convicted the suspended official and awarded a jail term on him along with the fine.
